Beautiful Weekend
for Bluegrass
The
weather was picture perfect for the fall Blackwater Bluegrass Festival.
All the performers were crisp and the music was fantastic. Marty
Raybon, who was scheduled to play on Friday night had a scheduling
conflict that could have forced him to cancel, but he really wanted
to play at Blackwater Bluegrass. Karl Shiflett and Big Country Show
who was scheduled to play on Saturday graciously agreed to swap
days with Marty.
"It worked out great," says George Deavours. "we
were worried that we'd have a gap in our schedule, but both Marty
and Karl worked it out and we are thankful."
The show went on and the crowd was elated.

Marty
Raybon to Plays Blackwater Bluegrass Festival
From the very first time you heard Marty Raybon, as the lead singer
of the award winning country music group Shenandoah, singing “Mama
Knows”, “Ghost In This House”, “Two Dozen
Roses”, “Church On Cumberland Road”, and “Somewhere
In The Vicinity Of The Heart” you knew he was one of those
gifted vocalists. He can take a lyric and put heartbreak into the
melody like no other singer before him. Rascal Flatts’ lead
vocalist Gary LeVox, called Marty “the greatest singer on
the planet to this day” and country music historian Robert
K. Oerman said “Marty Raybon’s voice is truly one of
Nashville’s greatest treasures”.
Marty Raybon will be performing at Blackwater Bluegrass on Saturday
Ocotober 14th. The music begins at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m.
on Saturday. Click

Karl Shiflett &
Big Country Show at Blackwater Bluegrass
The Karl Shiflett & Big Country
Show is an all acoustic vintage country music show devoted to capturing
the spirit and feeling of acoustic country music from the 1940's
and 50's. The group’s musical repertoire includes songs from
that era as well as their own original compositions that sound as
if they were written 50 years ago.
They are indeed the premier "Retro"
act of the new millenium. The group works closely around an old
RCA ribbon microphone adorned with a station flag containing the
call letters KSBC standing not for some western radio station but
of course Karl Shiflett & Big Country. The groups nostalgic
and highly entertaining stage show is so convincing that one begins
to wonder “Is Harry Truman still President”?
Karl and the Big Country Show will be performing on Saturday. Don't
miss this band!

Iron
Horse to Play Saturday and Sunday at Blackwater
Iron Horse was formed in 2000 in the
famous hit recording capital of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s,
Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The band consists of four members including
Vance Henry, guitar, lead & tenor vocals; Anthony Richardson,
banjo, baritone & bass vocals; Ricky Rogers, bassist, baritone
& lead vocals; and Tony Robertson, mandolin, lead & tenor
vocals. The bands roots go back to the late 1970’s, when Tony
Robertson and Ricky Rogers were charter members of the popular local
group, “The Next in Line”. Through the years and after
involvement with several groups, the present band was born as a
result of the participation of Tony Robertson, Vance Henry and Ricky
Rogers in the Jake Landers Band. In January 2003, Anthony was asked
to fill an opening for a banjo player and the present Iron Horse
configuration evolved. Iron Horse creates much of its own music,
with an innate ability for cross-genre arrangements. Iron Horse
has one self-produced album, “Ridin’ Out the Storm”,
containing fourteen songs, with ten previously un-released compositions,
six of which are Iron Horse-composed originals. “Ridin’
Out the Storm” was released in December 2001. Click
